Cara Cara Tree
City: Osceola County
GPS: N28 03.909 W81 14.778
The famed Cara Cara tree is a dead snag on a farm pasture, close to the road along Canoe Creek Road. This is mostly a morning location. This location can be hit and miss. The best time to catch them here is very early morning.
If you look back north and on the opposite side of the road you will see a single cabbage palm tree. A pair of Cara Cara have used this tree for a couple of years to nest in. The nest will be too deep in the tree to photograph but many opportunities for flight shots will exist when they are nesting, coming and going to the tree. This of course will become more of an afternoon location then.
You should be alert all up and down Canoe Creek Road there are various pairs of Cara Cara’s in the area. They typically will look for road kill. It is not uncommon to find them in a group of Vultures around a road-killed animal.
Directions: The tree is on the right approximately 1.7 miles from the intersection Cypress Lake Road & Canoe Creek Rd.
